Printing On The Go – Great USB Drive for Printing On The Go
Posted by: Charles W. Teel in Printing On The Go on March 7th, 2009
Yesterday I was at the Office Depot buying supplies and found a great USB Flash Drive for use with ActivePrint Traveler. Its an Ativa 4GB Thin USB Flash Drive. When they say thin on this one they mean it. It’s about a 1/16 of an inch thick and comes with a key chain loop. Its perfect if you are always on the go and need to bring along your data. The best part is that it was only $19.99! That’s a very reasonable price for 4GB of storage, especially given the physical size of the drive.
Its even better to install the ActivePrint Traveler Helper Application on so that you can also print from your phone while on the go.
New Server Up And Online!
Posted by: Charles W. Teel in News on February 24th, 2009
A few days ago I posted about plans to upgrade to a new more powerful server that can support more printing from more users. Well, I’m happy to announce that this process is complete. For current users you will need to transfer your account by visiting our account transfer page. Account transfer is relatively quick (it only took me 15 seconds to transfer my account) and completely automated.
This is going to be particularly beneficial for when ActivePrint Traveler launches on the Apple iTunes AppStore since that will likely bring a huge wave of new users. With this new server our current users won’t experience any downtime due to the increased server load.
If you haven’t already, go get a copy of ActivePrint Traveler for your Windows Mobile Phone.
Or if you have a phone that runs an OS other than Windows Mobile, such as Apple iPhone or RIM Blackberry, we’re in the process of developing versions of ActivePrint Traveler for those platforms as well. Go sign up for our announcement list and you’ll receive the latest news on our development of ActivePrint Traveler for your phone.
Service Upgrades Coming Soon
Posted by: Charles W. Teel in News on February 19th, 2009
I’ve got some more good news today! With the upcoming development project of an iPhone version of ActivePrint Traveler, we’re going to be doing some major upgrades to our service. Presently the ActivePrint Traveler service is an ASP .Net 3.5 Web Application using Microsoft SQL Server.
For the past several days I have been working on a port of the ASP .Net version to a PHP version which will use MySQL. Now, after all that technical junk, what does that mean for you? It means a much faster means of printing from your phone! I’m also working on adding the ability to send print jobs of greater than our current limit of 10 megabytes. My goal is to double it to 20 megabytes.
So, keep an eye out in the next week or so for an upgrade to your current Windows Mobile ActivePrint Traveler clients.

Printing On The Go – Doing Business While Away
Posted by: Charles W. Teel in Printing On The Go on February 6th, 2009
As with any business, there are always plenty of contracts and papers sent between Pocket Watch Software and other businesses. Today I received a contract by email on my Blackjack in MS Word format while I was on campus at school. There was no way I was going to be able to get back to my office till this afternoon.
So first I used DataViz’s Documents To Go to read and review the contract while away from the office. After reading through it and seeing what I wanted in the contract, I was able to send it to my ActivePrint Traveler account for printing. Then I went to the nearest open access lab on campus and ran the ActivePrint Traveler Helper app from my USB drive to have the contract automatically printed from my account. From there all I had to do was sign it and fax it back.

Back to the business world after a successful of week of classes. I was able to demonstrate ActivePrint Traveler to someone by printing out the Adobe Acrobat version of our new How-To article which I keep a copy of on my Blackjack.
All I had to do was select the PDF file on my phone with ActivePrint Traveler, send it to my ActivePrint Traveler account, and run the ActivePrint Traveler Helper app from my USB drive on their office computer.

Posted by: Charles W. Teel in How To on February 3rd, 2009
You have a huge collection of documents, photos, and emails on your mobile phone. But there is no easy way built into your phone to print any of it. ActivePrint Traveler gives you the ability to print from your phone no matter where you are.
What Can I Print?
Depending on what kind of phone you have, ActivePrint Traveler gives you the ability to print the following documents and information:
- Photos and images (including integration with the camera built into your phone)
- Office Documents (including Microsoft Office 2000 and 2007 compatible, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Plain Text
- Web Pages
- Contacts from your phone’s address book
What Do I Need?
ActivePrint Traveler requires very little to print.
- A mobile phone with the appropriate version of ActivePrint Traveler installed (available at http://www.ActivePrintTraveler.com)
- A data connection for your phone either through your cellular carrier or through a WiFi connection
- A USB Flash Drive with the ActivePrint Traveler Helper App installed (available at http://www.ActivePrintTraveler.com)
- An ActivePrint Traveler account which you can register for free for at http://register.ActivePrintTraveler.net
How Do I Print?
Printing with ActivePrint Traveler is very simple. Simply follow the steps below.
- Launch the ActivePrint Traveler app on your phone
- Choose what you want to print (“Photo from Album” for example) – screenshot
- Set the options for how you want your document to be printed which including number of copies and portrait/landscape paper orientation – screenshot

- If it is your first time to ActivePrint Traveler on your phone you will be asked for your login information (screenshot) which you entered at the ActivePrint Traveler Account registration page at http://register.ActivePrintTraveler.net.
- Then go to your nearest Windows XP/Vista PC and run the ActivePrint Helper App from your USB Flash Drive (available at http://www.ActivePrintTraveler.com) – screenshot
- This PC can be your office computer, a computer at the hotel you’re staying at, or a computer in an open access lab at your school.
- Click the button labeled “Print…”
All your documents will then be automatically downloaded and printed to the PC’s printer.
Is It Secure?
Yes. ActivePrint Traveler uses 128 bit data encryption to make sure that your documents are safe when traveling between your phone, your account, and the ActivePrint Traveler Helper app.
What Phones Are Supported?
Currently we support Windows Mobile phones. Support will be added for Apple iPhone next, with RIM Blackberry and Google Android soon to follow. We plan to finish production on the iPhone version within a couple of months (March 2009).
How Much Does ActivePrint Traveler Cost?
ActivePrint Traveler only costs $3.99 per phone. This price is the same on all types of phones that ActivePrint Traveler supports.
