Introducing Printing On The Go – A New Web Series

I’m introducing a new series of posts to the ActivePrint Traveler called “Printing On The Go”. The best part of ActivePrint Traveler is the ability to print from your phone no matter where you are whether you’re at your office, at school, or away.

To demonstrate this I am going to start blogging about my use of ActivePrint Traveler in my own day to day life as I go through work here at Pocket Watch Software and at school as I work on my second degree in the College of Business at Lamar University. As I go through this series you’ll get to see some examples of how ActivePrint Traveler could be used in your day to day life whether you’re in business, a student, or just an average user of your phone.

I’ll be doing a mix of regular text blogging as well a few YouTube videos of my use of ActivePrint Traveler. Currently I’m using a Samsung Blackjack running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 for Smartphones. So I’ll be using ActivePrint Traveler for Windows Mobile Standard.

ActivePrint Traveler Giveaway – Jan. 29th, 2009

Here’s another ActivePrint Traveler user and what they could do with the ability to print from their phone:

“I would benefit from this by taking pictures of facility issues in our building and being able to print them from your web based services.  Also I could save and print my Time Sheets and Travel Logs this way also.  I work for a non-profit organization and this would benefit both our organization and myself.”

See what this user said about how they could use ActivePrint Traveler while on the go:

“I am on the go with my HTC Tilt and having the ability to print between home, office and as I visit the 87 churches in our Association would be of great benefit. I would be able to share ‘How to’ documents and training material straight from my phone. Thanks for the opportunity to use ActivePrint.”

Print From Windows Mobile For Free!

As a part of the launch of our new ActivePrint Traveler software we’re giving away 25 free licenses for free (worth $3.99 each)! With ActivePrint Traveler you can print photos and documents from your Windows Mobile phone wherever you go. Here’s what you have to do to get one of these 25 free licenses:

  • Visit the Contact Us page here
  • Tell us how you would benifit from being able to print from your Windows Mobile Device
  • Watch your email inbox for your free ActivePrint Traveler license (it should arrive within 1 business day)

The first 25 people to send a submission in will receive a free ActivePrint Traveler license. After all the submissions are in, we’ll post the best ones here.

How does ActivePrint Traveler work? It is probably the simplest mobile printing solution for your phone. So the short answer to this question is very easily.

Let’s say you’re like most of us who use mobile phones and you take photos everywhere you go using your phone’s built in camera. Wouldn’t it be great if you could easily have that photo printed while away from your home or office? With the ActivePrint Traveler installed on your phone you can. After you’ve taken the photo simply run the ActivePrint Traveler app and choose the “Photo from Album” option. Depending on the phone you’re using you will see a list of the photos currently stored on your phone, including the one you just took.

Just select that photo and then tell ActivePrint Traveler if you want multiple copies, or if you want it to print in portrait or landscape mode, and then send it. Your photo will then be safely and securely sent to our server where it will wait in your free account.

Later that day you return to your home, your office, or the hotel you’re staying at and run the ActivePrint Traveler Helper Application (available for free here) on a desktop or laptop with a printer. This program will then automatically download and print your photo from your account.

So it’s as simple as this:

  1. Take a photo
  2. Send it to our server to be printed
  3. Run the ActivePrint Traveler Helper Application on a PC to have your photo printed

And you’re not limited to just photos. You can print contacts from your address book, office documents (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Adobe Acrobat PDF files, appointments from you calendar, web pages, and more!

There are no IP addresses or port numbers to juggle. Just your email address and a password that you choose.
